Donald Marcel Rivers, Jr., Armed Bank Robbery, Maryland 2018

In a brazen daylight robbery, three Hagerstown, Maryland residents – Donald Marcel Rivers, Jr., 30; Ashley Nicole Collier, 31; and Timothy Mclain, 29 – were sentenced to prison for their role in the armed bank robbery of a bank located in the 1300 block of Salem Avenue in Hagerstown.

According to court documents, Rivers and his girlfriend, Collier, planned the robbery and enlisted the help of Collier’s brother, Mclain. On January 9, 2018, the trio arrived at the bank in a gray Jeep Cherokee, with Rivers and Mclain wearing black face masks. Rivers was armed with a loaded 9mm handgun, which he pointed at bank employees and customers inside the bank.

The robbers stole approximately $6,567 from the bank. After fleeing the scene, Rivers jumped out of the Jeep and fled into a nearby cornfield, while the Jeep sped away. Police caught Rivers, who had $2,860.00 in his pocket. A short time later, police arrested Mclain and Collier, who were found with $2,660.00 and $1,070, respectively.

Rivers, Collier, and Mclain were sentenced to 14 years, 90 months, and 84 months and one day in prison, respectively, each followed by five years, five years, and three years of supervised release, for armed bank robbery and related firearms charges.

United States Attorney Robert K. Hur praised the FBI, the Hagerstown Police Department, and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for their work in the investigation. ‘This case demonstrates the FBI’s commitment to investigating and prosecuting violent crimes, and we are grateful for the efforts of our law enforcement partners,’ Hur said.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christine Duey and Sandra Wilkinson.

Rivers’ mother, Dianne Rivers, pled guilty to felony obstruction of justice after she destroyed a phone her son used after the robbery. Judge Chasanow sentenced her to 3 months in prison.
