Damon Bellamy (40, Riverview) and Quijuania Williams (40, Riverview) received sentences of seven years and eight months, and five years and three months in federal prison, respectively, for theft of government funds, U.S. District Judge Charlene Honeywell announced today.
The pair didn’t just dip their toes into fraud; they dove headfirst. Court documents reveal Bellamy and Williams ran a conspiracy to file false and fraudulent income tax returns, using the stolen personal identification information of unsuspecting individuals. This wasn’t a one-time grab – the scheme stretched back before 2010 and continued until June 2013, demonstrating a calculated and prolonged effort to defraud the Internal Revenue Service.
The method was as cynical as it was effective. Once fraudulent refunds were approved, Bellamy and Williams didn’t bother with subtlety. They directed the funds onto debit cards registered in their own names, and the names of their accomplices – a network that included family members and friends who willingly participated in the illegal operation. The sheer scope of the fraud is staggering: the court determined the duo caused an actual loss of $1,579,567 to the IRS, while attempting to collect a total of over $6.3 million in fraudulent refunds.
