A Roanoke man has been sentenced to 180 months in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm, U.S. Attorney John P. Fishwick Jr.’s office announced yesterday.
Pierce Yarnell Brown, 38, of Roanoke, pled guilty in March to one count of being a previously convicted felon illegally in possession of a firearm. The crime was committed in the Western District of Virginia, in Roanoke.
“We continue to be committed to taking illegal guns out of the hands of prohibited users like Mr. Brown and off our streets,” U.S. Attorney John P. Fishwick Jr. said. “In order to keep our communities safe, we must rid them of illegal firearms and those who possess them.”
The investigation into the case was conducted by the Roanoke City Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Bassford prosecuted the case for the United States.
Brown’s sentence of 180 months in federal prison is a result of his guilty plea to the federal firearms charge. The sentence is a long one, but it reflects the seriousness of the crime.
