Ronnie Bila Shaka, Machinegun Possession, Minnesota 2023

A federal indictment has been unsealed against Ronnie Bila Shaka, a 42-year-old man from Robbinsdale, Minnesota, for his involvement in a serious case of machinegun possession and ammunition charges.

According to the indictment, on or about November 2, 2023, Shaka knowingly possessed three 9mm pistols and two pistols equipped with a machinegun conversion device commonly known as a "switch" or "auto sear," which enables the weapon to be fired as a fully automatic by a single pull of the trigger. He also possessed multiple rounds of ammunition. This is a serious charge, and the federal government is taking it very seriously.

Shaka has prior felony convictions in Hennepin and Ramsey Counties, which makes him prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition at any time. The indictment charges Shaka with one count of possessing firearms as a felon, one count of unlawful possession of machineguns, and one count of possessing ammunition as a felon.

Shaka was arraigned yesterday in U.S. District Court before Magistrate Judge Douglas L. Micko. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ruth S. Shnider is prosecuting the case. This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the Robbinsdale Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, with assistance from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and the Crystal Police Department.

An indictment is merely an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. However, the evidence against Shaka is strong, and it is likely that he will face serious consequences if convicted.

The investigation into Shaka’s activities is ongoing, and it is possible that additional charges may be filed in the future. The federal government is committed to keeping our communities safe, and we will continue to work tirelessly to bring those who break the law to justice.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota will continue to work with local law enforcement agencies to ensure that those who engage in illegal activities are held accountable.
