Robert Carl Litheredge, Armed Bank Robbery, Nevada 2018

Robert Carl Litheredge, 58, of Las Vegas, is behind bars after a string of brazen bank robberies that left customers and employees shaken. Litheredge, a convicted felon with a history of bank robberies, allegedly robbed two Bank of America locations in Las Vegas on April 17, 2018, making off with a total of approximately $22,000.

The first robbery took place at the Bank of America located at 2638 Horizon Ridge Parkway in Henderson, where Litheredge, wearing a dark-colored ski mask and carrying a handgun, ordered customers and employees to get down on the floor. He demanded $100,000 from a teller, who was overcome with fear. The branch manager stepped in and provided Litheredge with cash from the teller’s drawer, which he used to flee the scene with $1,999.

A few hours later, Litheredge struck again at the Bank of America located at 4080 Spring Mountain Road in Las Vegas. He wore a black ski mask and carried a handgun, demanding $50,000 from a teller. However, the teller managed to escape through a door behind the teller stations, leaving Litheredge in the bank’s lobby. The suspect then fired a round from his handgun into the ceiling before fleeing the scene with $20,000.

Litheredge’s crimes were short-lived, as an anonymous tip identified him as the perpetrator on April 18, 2018. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department located Litheredge on April 19, 2018, and arrested him. During an interview with detectives, Litheredge admitted to robbing both banks on April 17, 2018.

Litheredge’s history of bank robberies dates back to 2001 and 2007, when he was convicted of bank robbery on two separate occasions. He has eight prior felony convictions, including two bank robbery convictions. Litheredge is also charged with felon in possession of a firearm.

The case is being investigated by the FBI, the Henderson Police Department, and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Phillip N. Smith Jr. is prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer for everyone.

Litheredge’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 5, 2018. If convicted, he faces significant time behind bars for his brazen crimes. As one law enforcement official noted, ‘this case is a prime example of the importance of community involvement in keeping our neighborhoods safe.’
