A New York man has been sentenced to 16 months’ imprisonment and three years of supervised release for threatening a U.S. Senator. Robert F. Crosson, 60, pleaded guilty to threatening a federal official in October 2023.
According to information presented to the court, on February 9, 2022, Crosson left a voicemail at the Martinsburg, West Virginia office of a U.S. Senator. The message included a threat, stating that there was ‘a bullet coming to your head soon.’
United States District Judge Gina M. Groh of the Northern District of West Virginia imposed the sentence after noting the seriousness of the offense. The judge also stressed the importance of deterring threats of violence against public officials.
Assistant United States Attorney DeMarr W. Moulton prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. U.S. Attorney Eric G. Olshan commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and United States Capitol Police for their investigation into the case.
The case was handled by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania, following the recusal of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of West Virginia.
Crosson’s crime was committed in West Virginia, but he resides in New York City. The Northern District of West Virginia handled the case and imposed the sentence.
