A loaded stolen handgun with an extended magazine was found in the possession of Robert Geiger, a convicted felon.
Robert Geiger, 47, a previously convicted felon residing in the District of Columbia, was sentenced Friday to 33 months in prison for illegally possessing a loaded stolen handgun with an extended magazine.
The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro, who revealed that Geiger’s conviction stemmed from a federal investigation that uncovered his involvement in the illicit handgun trade.
According to the charges, Geiger knowingly possessed a loaded stolen handgun with an extended magazine, a violation of federal law that prohibits felons from possessing firearms.
The extended magazine found in Geiger’s possession was not a standard issue, but rather a high-capacity magazine that can hold more than 15 rounds of ammunition.
The investigation that led to Geiger’s conviction was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Washington D.C. Metro Police Department.
Geiger’s sentencing serves as a stark reminder that the consequences of violating federal laws related to firearms are severe and far-reaching.
