ROBERT LYONS, a 32-year-old resident of Covington, Louisiana, is behind bars after being charged with federal firearms violations, according to a recent Indictment.
LYONS is accused of possessing firearm silencers on March 3, 2017, in violation of Title 26, United States Code, Section 5861(d). Additionally, the Indictment alleges that Lyons knowingly made firearm silencers prior to March 3, 2017, in violation of Title 26, United States Code, Section 5861(f).
An Indictment is merely a charge, and the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, Acting U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans stressed. Evans praised the work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in investigating this matter.
If convicted, LYONS faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years, a fine of $10,000, three years of supervised release after imprisonment, and a $100 special assessment. Assistant United States Attorney Maria M. Carboni is in charge of the prosecution.
The investigation into Lyons’ alleged activities is ongoing, and it is unclear what motivated the defendant to engage in the crimes for which he has been charged.
LYONS’ case is a stark reminder of the serious consequences of violating federal firearms laws. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives has been working tirelessly to crack down on those who seek to exploit loopholes in these laws.
As the investigation continues, the community can rest assured that justice will be served. The Covington Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives are working together to ensure that those responsible for these crimes are held accountable.
LYONS is currently being held without bond and is awaiting trial. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Maria M. Carboni.
