Robert Meader, Bank Robbery, Pennsylvania 2016

A brazen bank robber has been brought to justice after pleading guilty to robbing two banks in Pennsylvania and New York.

Robert Meader, 31, of Liverpool, New York, appeared before United States District Court Judge Robert Mariani in Federal Court in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on May 16, 2016, and pleaded guilty to committing the following two bank robberies:

$14,147 from the NBT Bank, Great Bend, Pennsylvania, on October 13, 2015;

$5,721 from the NBT Bank, Albany, New York, on January 6, 2016.

Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Pennsylvania State Police arrested Meader without incident in Liverpool, New York, on January 12, 2016. He has been held at the Lackawanna County Jail in Scranton since his arrest.

The case was jointly investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, New York. Prosecution is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney John Gurganus.

A sentence following a finding of guilt is imposed by the Judge after consideration of the applicable federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

The maximum penalty for each offense under federal law is 20 years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the Judge is also required to consider and weigh a number of factors, including the nature, circumstances and seriousness of the offense; the history and characteristics of the defendant; and the need to punish the defendant, protect the public and provide for the defendant’s educational, vocational and medical needs.
