Robert Miguel Castillo, a 45-year-old Palm Coast man, has been sentenced to three years and four months in federal prison for his role in the possession and transfer of machine guns. Castillo, who pleaded guilty on August 6, 2018, was found to have sold 10 Glock auto switches to a co-conspirator, Chad Howard Talbot.
A Glock auto switch is a firearm accessory designed to convert a Glock handgun from semi-automatic to automatic fire. The switches were then resold to a convicted felon. This is a serious crime, and the punishment should serve as a warning to others who would engage in such activities.
According to court documents, Castillo’s actions were part of a larger scheme to distribute machine guns. This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Brandon Bayliss, on assignment from the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor, ICE.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making our neighborhoods safer for everyone. In October 2017, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the reinvigoration of PSN and directed all U.S. Attorneys’ Offices to develop districtwide crime reduction strategies.
Robert Miguel Castillo must now face the consequences of his actions. A lengthy prison sentence will give him time to reflect on the harm he has caused and the importance of following the law.
