Robert Tyler Watt, Methamphetamine Conspiracy, Wyoming 2016

Robert Tyler Watt, 29, of Casper, Wyoming, is behind bars for 80 months after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of firearms. The sentence, handed down November 16, 2016, by Federal District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl, marks the end of a high-stakes bust that exposed a dangerous nexus of drugs and guns in central Wyoming.

Watt was arrested in Casper following a coordinated investigation that peeled back layers of illicit activity. Federal prosecutors tied him to a network moving methamphetamine across state lines, while also uncovering multiple firearms in his possession—firearms he’s legally barred from owning due to prior felony convictions.

In addition to his prison term, Watt will face three years of supervised release upon completion of his sentence. He was also ordered to pay a $200.00 special assessment and $500.00 in restitution—a small price compared to the damage methamphetamine inflicts on communities like his own.

The case was jointly investigated by the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Their collaboration led to the seizure of weapons and narcotics, disrupting a pipeline feeding addiction and violence.

Watt’s sentencing underscores the federal government’s crackdown on repeat offenders who traffic in both drugs and illegal firearms. In Wyoming, where rural law enforcement often battles understaffing and rising drug use, cases like this are a grim reminder of the stakes.

As Watt begins his time in federal custody, authorities say the message is clear: armed drug conspiracies won’t be tolerated. The streets of Casper may breathe a little easier—but the war on meth is far from over.
