Robert Vandori Johnson, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Colorado 2022

Aurora man convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm, faces up to 10 years in prison

Robert Vandori Johnson, 40, of Aurora, was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm by a federal jury on November 16, 2022. He faces up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and 3 years of supervised release.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado, Johnson was convicted along with co-defendant Daevon House, 30, of Denver, who previously pled guilty to the same charge. The investigation was handled by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Denver Police Department.

The case unfolded on February 1, 2022, when Denver police officers were searching for House due to an outstanding arrest warrant. They observed House and Johnson drive to an apartment complex in Denver, Colorado, where they went inside and came back out a short time later. As they got back into the car, officers stopped it and attempted to arrest House, who ran on foot and dropped a firearm before being taken into custody.

Johnson was contacted and escorted from the driver seat of his car, where a semiautomatic pistol was found in his waistband. He had previously been convicted of a felony offense, making it unlawful for him to possess a firearm or ammunition.

Johnson will be sentenced at a later date. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.
