Rochester Felon Charles King Pleads Guilty to Ammunition Charge

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The grim halls of justice were once again echoing with a plea of guilty, as Charles B. King, 36, of Rochester, NY, stood before U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa, his fate sealed by the charge of being a felon in possession of ammunition.

The crime carries a heavy penalty – up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine – but King’s record is as bleak as his plea. With four prior felony convictions already under his belt, any ammunition in his possession was illegal.

On August 25, 2019, the Rochester Police Department, led by Chief La’Ron Singletary, arrived at 1570 Clifford Avenue to quell a domestic dispute. What they found instead was a trove of lethal potential: 26 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition in King’s bedroom, and a 12-gauge shotgun hidden away in the basement.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Katelyn M. Hartford is the architect of King’s conviction, a charge that stems from this harrowing discovery. The investigation was a joint effort between the Rochester Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), under the watchful eye of Special Agent-in-Charge John B. Devito.

Siragusa’s courtroom will see King again on December 8, 2020, at 10:00 a.m., where his sentence will be determined.
