A Rochester man has been sentenced to 40 months in prison for possessing a shotgun and ammunition, despite being a felon.
Quincey Frye, 27, was convicted on March 26, 2016, after members from the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision apprehended him at 270 Weyl Street in Rochester.
At the time, Frye was under the supervision of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision following a 2012 conviction for Attempted Burglary in the Second Degree.
Evidence presented during the trial showed that officers found a shotgun with an ammunition carrying case attached while searching for Frye inside the residence.
The ammunition carrier contained four live shotgun shells, and Frye was arrested after being found hiding in the attic.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles E. Moynihan stated that after officers took Frye to booking at the Monroe County Jail, he placed a telephone call to his girlfriend, accusing her of telling law enforcement officers about the shotgun.
The case was brought by the U.S. Attorney’s Office as part of its Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, a program aimed at reducing violent crime.
The investigation was conducted by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, the Rochester Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
