ROCHESTER, NY – Amit Pandey, 41, of Rochester, is facing a potential life sentence after being charged with the heinous crimes of production of child pornography and online enticement of a minor. The arrest, announced today by Acting U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr., marks the culmination of an investigation into deeply disturbing behavior.
The case dates back to February 2017, when Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies caught Pandey red-handed, engaging in sexual activity with a 16-year-old female in a parked vehicle. The initial arrest triggered a forensic examination of Pandey’s cell phone, which revealed a digital trail of depravity. Assistant U.S. Attorney John J. Field detailed how investigators uncovered sexually explicit chats and images exchanged between Pandey and the minor victim via the Kik messaging application.
The cell phone wasn’t just a repository for illicit content; it was a tool used to orchestrate further exploitation. According to court documents, Pandey actively used the device to arrange meetings with the victim for sexual encounters. The extent of the abuse is still being investigated, but the initial findings paint a grim picture of calculated predation.
Pandey made his initial appearance before Magistrate Judge Marian W. Payson and is currently being held without bail. If convicted on these charges, Pandey faces a minimum of 10 years in federal prison and a maximum sentence of life, alongside a hefty $250,000 fine. This isn’t just about punishment; it’s about protecting vulnerable children from predators like Pandey.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn, and Special Agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge James C. Spero. Their combined resources were crucial in uncovering the full scope of Pandey’s crimes and bringing him to justice.
It’s critical to remember that these are allegations, and Pandey is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. However, the evidence presented thus far is deeply troubling, and the Grimy Times will continue to follow this case closely, ensuring that the public is informed of every development.
