Rochester Man Sentenced to 60 Months for Child Pornography
A former Rochester resident has been sentenced to 60 months in prison for his role in a child pornography ring. Gordon J. Plugh, 42, of Wayland, N.Y., pleaded guilty to receiving over 600 images of child pornography using file-sharing software KaZaa between May 2003 and July 2005.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany H. Lee, the investigation began in May 2005 when the FBI received information that the website of the Great Plains Child Care Resource and Referral (GPCCRR) Center had been hacked and was being used as a repository site for the distribution of child pornography.
The website’s web logs revealed that Plugh had visited the hacked website multiple times, leading FBI agents to interview him at his residence in July 2005. Plugh voluntarily gave consent to search two hard drives in his possession, which were later found to contain numerous images of child pornography.
The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Brian P. Boetig. U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa handed down the 60-month prison sentence and 30 years of supervised release.
Plugh’s actions are a stark reminder of the dangers of child pornography and the importance of online safety. As we continue to move forward in the digital age, it is imperative that we remain vigilant in our efforts to protect our children from these heinous crimes.
The investigation into Plugh’s activities serves as a warning to those who would seek to exploit children online. We must work together to create a safer and more secure online environment for all.
Gordon J. Plugh’s sentence is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies in combating child pornography. His case serves as a reminder that those who would seek to harm our children will be brought to justice.
