Cecil Terrance Reams, Ammunition and Firearms Theft, North Carolina 2018

RALEIGH, N.C. – A Rocky Mount man was sentenced to 120 months in prison for stealing ammunition and firearms in Elm City, North Carolina, in a brazen early morning break-in.

Cecil Terrance Reams, 48, entered his guilty plea on June 8, 2021, for the August 29, 2018, break-in, during which he and his co-defendants stole three rifles, an undetermined amount of ammunition, and a television.

As the investigation revealed, Reams and his co-defendant, 42-year-old Brandon Shane Reams, were both convicted felons serving active state probation sentences at the time of the break-in. They were required to wear ankle monitors, which showed both men at the Elm City property at the time of the break-in.

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, the Rocky Mount Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case, which led to the recovery of one of the stolen rifles after a search warrant was executed at the buyer’s residence in Rocky Mount.

Brandon Reams, Cecil’s co-defendant, was sentenced to 60 months in prison on August 4, 2021, for his role in the break-in.

U.S. District Judge James C. Dever III presided over the sentencing hearing, where G. Norman Acker, III, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, made the announcement.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Aakash Singh.
