Ronald Sharp, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Ohio 2021

A federal jury in Cleveland has found Ronald Sharp, 42, of Cleveland, Ohio, guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Sharp’s conviction stems from a search of his residence on September 25, 2019, where his parole officer found a loaded, 9mm semi-automatic pistol under a bedroom pillow and a set of camouflaged body armor inside the bedroom closet.

According to court records, Sharp was previously convicted of gross sexual imposition and kidnapping with a sexually motivated specification in the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court in 2006. Following his release from prison in 2015, Sharp was placed on post-release supervision with the Ohio Adult Parole Authority (APA) and was prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Sharp’s parole conditions included being subject to warrantless searches and obeying federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. The supervising parole officer became aware that Sharp may have been in violation of the terms of his release, leading to his arrest and the discovery of the firearm and body armor.

After the search, DNA samples from the firearm were matched to DNA taken from Sharp, further incriminating him in the crime.

Sharp is scheduled to be sentenced on September 1, 2021. This case was investigated by the ATF and APA, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Margaret Kane and Andrea Isabella.

In May 2021, a federal jury found Ronald Sharp, 42, of Cleveland, Ohio, guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

This case is a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to parole conditions and the consequences of violating them.
