Ronald J. Wiggins, Methamphetamine Distribution, Illinois 2015

Ronald J. Wiggins, 35, of Granite City, has been sentenced to 151 months in federal prison for his role in the distribution of methamphetamine.

The sentence was handed down on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, by the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton. Wiggins pled guilty in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis on September 3, 2014 to three federal charges: Maintaining Drug-Related Premises; Distribution of Methamphetamine; and Possession With Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine.

As part of his sentence, Wiggins will also be required to serve a term of three years on supervised release upon his release from prison. This will allow authorities to closely monitor his activities and ensure that he does not engage in any further criminal behavior.

At his change of plea hearing in September, Wiggins admitted that he had used his residence in Granite City, Illinois to distribute methamphetamine throughout 2013. He also admitted that he had sold methamphetamine to a police informant on June 13, and again on June 19, 2013, in Granite City. These admissions were a crucial part of the case against him and demonstrated the seriousness of his crimes.

The investigation that resulted in Wiggins’ arrest and conviction was conducted by the Granite City Police Department and by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The case was assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Robert L. Garrison, who worked tirelessly to bring Wiggins to justice.

The sentence handed down to Wiggins reflects the severity of his crimes and the impact that they had on the community. Methamphetamine distribution is a serious offense that can have devastating consequences for individuals and families. By holding Wiggins accountable for his actions, the justice system is sending a strong message that such behavior will not be tolerated.

The case against Wiggins is just one example of the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the scourge of methamphetamine distribution in Illinois. The Granite City Police Department and the DEA have worked together to identify and prosecute those involved in this type of criminal activity, and their efforts have led to a number of successful convictions.
