Ronnie Gordon, also known as “Pop,” has been sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for distributing crack cocaine. The 39-year-old New Haven man was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Vanessa L. Bryant in Hartford, and will also serve three years of supervised release.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Gordon was part of a New Haven drug trafficking organization headed by Jermayne Butler. The organization was responsible for distributing crack cocaine and oxycodone in the New Haven area, and Gordon played a key role in the distribution of these drugs.
The investigation into the organization began in June 2017, when the FBI\’s New Haven Safe Streets/Gang Task Force initiated a probe. The investigation included physical surveillance, 13 controlled purchases of narcotics, and court-authorized wiretaps on multiple phones. It was revealed that members of the organization, including Gordon, were distributing crack cocaine and oxycodone to users in the area.
Gordon was detained since his arrest on February 6, 2018. He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute, and to possess with intent to distribute, cocaine base (“crack”) on August 26, 2019. Gordon\’s criminal history includes multiple state convictions for drug, assault, and firearms offenses, which likely contributed to the severity of his sentence.
The case against Gordon and other members of the organization was investigated by the FBI\’s New Haven Safe Streets/Gang Task Force, which includes members from the New Haven Police Department, Milford Police Department, West Haven Police Department, and Connecticut Department of Correction. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Patrick F. Caruso and David C. Nelson.
Gordon\’s sentence is just one part of a larger crackdown on the New Haven drug trafficking organization. On August 10, 2020, Jermayne Butler, the head of the organization, was sentenced to 78 months of imprisonment. A total of 19 individuals, including Gordon and Butler, have been convicted in connection with the organization\’s activities. The sentences handed down in these cases reflect the seriousness with which law enforcement and the courts are treating drug trafficking in the New Haven area.
