Rosebud Man Charged With Failure to Register as a Sex Offender

Kameron Jackson, a 22-year-old man from Rosebud, South Dakota, has been charged with a serious crime that could land him in prison for up to 10 years and cost him $250,000.

According to the indictment, Jackson failed to register as a sex offender between June 15, 2014, and August 7, 2014. This is a requirement under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, and Jackson’s conviction under federal law made him subject to this rule.

The indictment alleges that Jackson, who was required to register as a sex offender, failed to do so during the specified time period. The U.S. Marshals Service is conducting the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Tim Maher is prosecuting the case.

Jackson appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on January 20, 2015, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 10 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, 5 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

The charge is merely an accusation, and Jackson is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The investigation is ongoing, and the U.S. Marshals Service is working to gather more evidence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tim Maher is expected to present more details about the case in court. Jackson was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after his appearance before the magistrate judge.

The indictment was announced by U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson, who emphasized the importance of compliance with sex offender registration requirements. The public’s safety is a top priority, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office is committed to ensuring that those who fail to comply with these requirements are held accountable.
