Rosebud Man Jailed for Sex Offender Registration Snafu

A Rosebud man is headed behind bars for violating his probation as a convicted sex offender.

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Darrell Bear Robe, 23, was sentenced on January 23, 2013 to 15 months in custody, five years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

Bear Robe’s troubles began in 2009 when he was convicted of Abusive Sexual Contact. He was sentenced to 24 months in custody, five years of supervised release, and ordered to register as a sex offender. However, he began to abscond from supervised release on June 15, 2011, and didn’t complete his bi-annual sex offender registration requirement until his apprehension in Oregon on May 9, 2012.

The investigation was conducted by the United States Marshal Service. Assistant United States Attorney Marie H. Ruettgers prosecuted the case.

Bear Robe was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal. His guilty plea was made on October 29, 2012, after being indicted by a federal grand jury on July 18, 2012.

Johnson’s office reminds the public that sex offender registration is a critical component of public safety. Bear Robe’s failure to comply with this requirement put his community at risk.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of complying with the terms of one’s probation or parole. Those who fail to do so may face severe consequences.
