A New York man has admitted to kidnapping and assaulting an individual with whom he had a romantic relationship, federal prosecutors said.
Rudolf Szoradi, 50, pleaded guilty to one count of kidnapping and interstate domestic violence in U.S. District Court in Newark, New Jersey.
According to court documents, Szoradi assaulted the victim with a knife in the basement of a Newark residence on December 15, 2017, causing serious injuries. He then confined her in a vehicle against her will and drove her across state lines to North Carolina, where the victim received medical attention.
Szoradi’s guilty plea comes after an investigation by the FBI and the Newark Police Division, with assistance from the Clayton, North Carolina, police department.
The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Feldman Nikic, while defense counsel is Candace Hom Esq., Assistant Federal Public Defender.
Szoradi is set to be sentenced on April 2, 2019, and faces a sentence of 87 to 108 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release.
Credit for the investigation goes to special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Gregory W. Ehrie in Newark.
