Russell Dinovo, Armed Bank Robbery, Massachusetts 2015

A brazen armed bank robbery shook the streets of Boston in October 2015 when two individuals, one later identified as Russell Dinovo, stormed a Hingham Institute for Savings branch in Boston.

The incident occurred on Oct. 9, 2015, when two masked robbers entered the bank. One of the perpetrators, identified as Dinovo, vaulted the teller counter and forced open two cash drawers, grabbing a total of $16,320. Dinovo then demanded that a bank employee open the vault, and the employee complied. Dinovo removed more cash from the vault.

The other individual, identified as Anthony Pantone, remained at the counter throughout the robbery, brandishing what appeared to be a handgun. After stealing the cash, the duo fled on foot but were apprehended shortly afterward in a cab with the stolen money and an airsoft gun.

Russell Dinovo, 52, pleaded guilty to one count of armed bank robbery in December 2017. On May 25, 2024, he was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Richard G. Stearns to 57 months in prison and five years of supervised release.

Pantone, who also pleaded guilty, was sentenced to 78 months in prison in August 2016. The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Boston Field Division.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus of the U.S. Attorney’s Major Crimes Unit. United States Attorney Andrew E. Lelling and Harold H. Shaw, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Boston Field Division, announced the sentencing.
