A Uniontown man has pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number, federal authorities announced.
Ryan Huffman, 33, of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to violating federal firearms laws, Acting United States Attorney Stephen R. Kaufman said.
Huffman pleaded guilty before Senior United States District Judge Donetta W. Ambrose to possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
The crime was uncovered during a break-in at Huffman’s residence on December 30, 2019. Uniontown Police responded to the incident and conducted a protective sweep, where they found ammunition, suspected drugs, and drug paraphernalia in plain view.
Police obtained a warrant to search the residence and seized three firearms, including a .40 caliber rifle, a .45 caliber pistol, and a .22 caliber revolver with an obliterated serial number. Huffman later confessed to possessing all of the firearms seized from his home.
The law provides for a term of imprisonment not more than five years, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Judge Ambrose scheduled sentencing for December 13, 2021, and ordered the defendant to remain on bond pending the sentencing of this case.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Uniontown Police Department conducted the investigation leading to these charges.
