Ryan S. Rozycki, Tax Evasion, Connecticut 2018

Ryan S. Rozycki, 41, of Norwalk, is going to prison for playing shell games with the IRS. The federal judge didn’t buy his excuses—today, U.S. District Judge Michael P. Shea sentenced Rozycki to six months behind bars, followed by two years of supervised release, for deliberately evading more than $300,000 in federal income taxes.

Court records lay bare the scheme: from 2009 through 2014, Rozycki pulled in over $1.6 million in gross receipts through his sports gaming website, bangthebook.com, rental properties, and other online ventures. But he funneled more than $1.1 million in taxable income into personal bank accounts and made damn sure it never showed up on his tax returns. He didn’t just forget—he actively concealed the money.

Even worse, Rozycki worked with an accountant to file his returns but handed over nothing about the deposits flooding his personal accounts. By cutting the accountant out of the loop, he engineered false filings that wiped out his tax obligations. The result? A tax debt exceeding $300,000 left unpaid while he lived off unreported earnings.

Rozycki, who pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion on September 20, 2017, has since paid full restitution—$336,780—to the IRS. But that doesn’t erase the crime. Judge Shea also slapped him with a $50,000 fine, plus interest and penalties still to come. Money doesn’t buy a free pass, especially when the feds are watching.

He’s been free on a $100,000 bond, but that freedom ends April 30, 2018, when he must report to prison. The sentence sends a clear message: hiding income might seem easy until the IRS Criminal Investigation Division comes knocking. They don’t knock gently.

This case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation Division and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael S. McGarry. For Rozycki, the cost of greed now includes a prison cell, a shattered reputation, and a financial hit that won’t stop tallying for years.
