Buffalo Man Charged in Medicaid Scam
Saleh Mozeb, 65, a Buffalo man, has been arrested and charged with healthcare fraud in connection with a scheme to defraud Medicaid out of thousands of dollars.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mozeb submitted fraudulent claims for payment to Medicaid, seeking reimbursement for non-emergency transportation allegedly provided by him. The fraud involved billing Medicaid for transportation trips that were not actually being performed, and individual rides that were billed as group rides, resulting in a greater reimbursement.
The scheme, which occurred between September 2016, and December 2020, netted Great Lake Transportation, the company Mozeb co-owns, approximately $34,825. Mozeb is charged with one count of healthcare fraud, a crime that carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Mozeb made an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder, Jr. and was released on conditions, including electronic monitoring.
The case is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the New York State Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, the New York State Police, the New York State Department of Financial Services, the New York State Comptroller’s Office, and U.S. Border Patrol.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
Mozeb is scheduled to appear in court again on [date] to answer the charges against him.
