Samad Madir Harvey, Convicted Felon With Firearm, West Virginia 2013

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — In a shocking turn of events, a 30-year-old Morgantown resident has been convicted of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

The trial, which lasted two days, concluded early Thursday evening with the jury delivering a guilty verdict against Samad Madir Harvey, also known as ‘Wes.’

The evidence presented in court showed that Harvey had previously been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year in Monongalia County on September 16, 2012.

Harvey’s prior felony convictions were for Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance and Distribution of Controlled Dangerous Substance in the Superior Court of Monmouth, New Jersey.

According to the trial evidence, Harvey illegally possessed a Kel-Tec Model PSAT, .380 caliber pistol.

Harvey, who is currently in custody pending sentencing, faces up to 10 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Zelda E. Wesley and investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Morgantown Police Department.

The conviction serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of breaking the law, particularly for those who have previously been convicted of a felony.

Harvey’s sentencing date has not been announced yet, but he will have to face the music for his crimes.
