Sammy Key Pleads Guilty to Felon in Possession of Firearm

MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Sammy Lynn Key, 45, of Colbert, Oklahoma, has entered a guilty plea in the Eastern District of Oklahoma for Felon in Possession of Firearm. The charge stems from his possession of a .38 Special caliber revolver on September 23, 2022, following a prior conviction for a crime carrying more than one year’s imprisonment.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that Key faces up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the offense. The investigation into this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Atoka County Sheriff’s Office.

U.S. Magistrate Judge D. Edward Snow has accepted Key’s plea and ordered a presentence investigation report to be completed. A U.S. District Court Judge will determine the sentence based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Key remains in custody of the United States Marshals Service until sentencing, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jonathan E. Soverly and Lewis M. Reagan representing the United States in the case.

This conviction is a stark reminder of the consequences faced by individuals who continue to flout firearms laws despite prior convictions. The community can expect justice to be served as the legal process moves forward.
