Burlington, Vermont – A brazen bank robbery has shaken the community, leaving residents on high alert. In a shocking turn of events, 32-year-old Samuel W. Blatt has been charged with bank robbery, a crime that could land him behind bars for up to 20 years.
According to sources, the investigation into Blatt’s alleged crimes began on Friday, March 15, 2024, in Burlington, Vermont. Following a thorough investigation involving numerous law enforcement offices, Blatt was taken into custody and is currently being held on state charges.
Blatt is accused of committing bank robberies in Essex, Johnson, and Winooski, as well as an attempted bank robbery in Burlington. The charges against him are serious, and if convicted, he could face a significant amount of prison time, including up to 20 years, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
The United States Attorney’s Office emphasizes that the complaint contains allegations only and that Blatt is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. United States Attorney Nikolas P. Kerest commended the investigative collaboration that occurred among law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Chittenden County Gun Violence Task Force, the police departments of Winooski, Burlington, Williston, Essex, and Milton, the Investigations Unit of Vermont DMV Enforcement and Safety, Homeland Security Investigations, the United States Border Patrol, the Sheriff’s Departments of Grand Isle and Lamoille Counties, and the Vermont State Police.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Colin Owyang. Counsel is yet to be appointed for Blatt. As the investigation continues, residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
