LAFAYETTE, La. – A staggering case of greed and deception has come to an end with the sentencing of a former breast cancer center business manager for stealing nearly $200,000 while working at the center.

Sarah J. Broussard, 48, of Youngsville, Louisiana, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge S. Maurice Hicks Jr. to two years and nine months in prison for one count of wire fraud and one count of making and subscribing a false income tax return.

Broussard was also sentenced to three years of supervised release, ordered to pay $197,227 to the breast cancer center and ordered to pay $48,838 to the IRS.

According to Broussard’s guilty plea on April 4, 2018, she embezzled from the breast cancer center while working there as the business manager beginning in late 2009 and continuing through November 2014.

The investigation into Broussard’s crimes was conducted by the IRS – Criminal Investigative Division, the U.S. Secret Service and the Lafayette Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel J. McCoy prosecuted the case.

The sentencing of Broussard brings an end to a saga of deceit and corruption that has shaken the faith of many in the local community.
