Alexandria, Va. – Saul Pacheco Mejia, a 55-year-old Honduran national formerly of Reston, Virginia, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in a 2011 murder.
According to court documents, Mejia arranged to sell cocaine to individuals in Reston on December 12, 2011. Instead of purchasing the cocaine, the intended customer attempted to steal the cocaine and flee.
Mejia’s associates chased, shot, and killed the man. Mejia did not have a firearm, but knew the two other individuals did have firearms. Mejia and the others fled to Honduras shortly after the crime.
In late 2019, Mejia was located in the United States and arrested in Texas.
Mejia pleaded guilty on July 15, 2021, to aiding and abetting the use of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking conspiracy, causing death, and abetting the use of a firearm in connection with a drug conspiracy resulting in death.
U.S. District Judge Rossie D. Alston, Jr. handed down the sentence.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael P. Ben’Ary is prosecuting the case.
Mejia’s sentencing comes after a lengthy investigation and prosecution by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia and the Fairfax County Police Department.
The case is a reminder of the dangers of drug trafficking and the importance of holding those responsible accountable for their crimes.
