ALBANY, NEW YORK – It’s a grim day in the usually tranquil town of Schenectady as Shaun Morant, 27, faces an array of child pornography charges that could send him to prison for decades.
Morant is accused of producing and receiving explicit material involving a young girl just ten years old back in January 2022, and receiving similar content with a boy under the age of ten between January 2020 and April 2022.
According to officials, Morant stands accused of not just viewing but actively participating in the distribution of this despicable material. The charges against him are serious and chilling: if convicted, he could face anywhere from 15 to 30 years for producing child porn, and at least 5 to up to 20 years for receiving it.
US Attorney Carla B. Freedman and FBI Special Agent in Charge Janeen DiGuiseppi have jointly announced the charges, emphasizing that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The severity of these accusations underscores the gravity of the crimes Morant is facing.
The investigation leading to this indictment has been a collaborative effort, with the FBI at the forefront. Assistant U.S. Attorney Rick Belliss is now handling the case under Project Safe Childhood, a federal initiative launched in 2006 that targets those who exploit children online. Project Safe Childhood leverages resources from all levels of law enforcement to protect our youth and bring predators to justice.
