In a highly publicized federal case, Scott Roeder, a 51-year-old anti-abortion activist, was charged with violent crimes in the 2009 murder of Dr. George Tiller, a prominent Kansas abortion provider. The case, ROEDER, was filed in the PAED Federal District Court in Pennsylvania on April 30, 2018. Roeder, a former Kansas resident, was accused of shooting Dr. Tiller at the physician’s church in Wichita, Kansas, on May 31, 2009. The FBI and the Kansas State Police had been investigating the murder for several years and finally brought charges against Roeder in 2013. However, Roeder died in prison on January 9, 2019, before his trial began. His death in prison made it impossible for him to face trial, and as a result, the case was closed.
