Sex Offender Sentenced to 18 Months in Prison

A 37-year-old Fayette man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for failing to register as a sex offender. Gregory Grove, a/k/a Gregory Kutruff, was convicted of the crime and sentenced by U.S. District Judge David G. Larimer.

Grove, who was required to register as a sex offender under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, left the State of Pennsylvania in June 2011 to come to the Western District of New York but failed to register as a sex offender in New York State. He also failed to update his registration status with Pennsylvania authorities to advise them that he had left the state.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany H. Lee handled the case, which was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project, launched in May 2006, marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation on the part of the United States Marshals Service, under the direction of Marshal Charles Salina. Project Safe Childhood has been instrumental in combating child exploitation and abuse in the United States.

Grove’s failure to register as a sex offender put innocent lives at risk and undermines the trust between law enforcement and the community. The sentencing of Grove serves as a reminder that law enforcement will not tolerate such behavior and will prosecute those who fail to register as required.

The investigation and prosecution of Grove’s case was a collaborative effort between the United States Marshals Service and the U.S. Attorney’s Office. This case highlights the importance of community vigilance in reporting suspicious activity and the importance of law enforcement working together to keep communities safe.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office commends the United States Marshals Service for their tireless efforts in investigating and prosecuting this case. The sentencing of Grove is a testament to the dedication and commitment of law enforcement to protecting our communities from those who would harm them.
