Shalom Lamm Pleads Guilty To Electoral Fraud In Bloomingburg

Real estate developer Shalom Lamm has admitted to conspiring to corrupt the electoral process in Bloomingburg, New York. According to federal prosecutors, Lamm sought to advance his real estate projects by falsely registering voters and paying bribes to non-residents to vote in their favor.

Starting in 2006, Lamm aimed to make hundreds of millions from developments in Bloomingburg, but faced local opposition as early as late 2013. Instead of addressing legitimate concerns, Lamm and his co-conspirators engaged in fraudulent voter registration schemes, including creating false leases and placing items like toothbrushes in unoccupied apartments to mislead election officials.

Lamm’s corrupt activities reached a peak ahead of the March 2014 mayoral and local elections. He and others devised plans to register individuals who did not live in Bloomingburg, some having never even visited the town.

Today, Lamm, 57, faces a maximum five-year sentence for conspiracy to corrupt the electoral process. Co-defendant Kenneth Nakdimen pleaded guilty on May 25th, also charged with conspiracy to corrupt the electoral process, and is scheduled for sentencing on September 7th.

Acting Manhattan U.S. Attorney Joon H. Kim emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of our electoral process. “Our democracy depends on it,” said Kim, praising the investigative work of several law enforcement agencies involved in the case.

The sentencing for Lamm is scheduled for September 28th at 10:00 a.m. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorneys Kathryn Martin, Benjamin Allee, and Perry Carbone from the Office’s White Plains Division.
