PORTLAND, Ore.—A North Bend man has been charged with sexually exploiting a minor female victim in a case that is now being investigated by the FBI.
Shannon Stacey Weatherbee, 47, was charged with three counts of sexual exploitation of children after a federal grand jury in Eugene returned an indictment on April 15, 2021.
According to the indictment, Weatherbee is alleged to have knowingly coerced a minor female to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of such conduct. These visual depictions were transmitted online.
The North Bend Police Department assisted the FBI in executing a search warrant at Weatherbee’s residence on April 16, 2021. The 47-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody.
Weatherbee made his initial appearance in federal court on April 16, 2021, before a U.S. Magistrate Judge. He pleaded not guilty and was ordered detained pending a jury trial scheduled to begin on June 22, 2021.
The FBI is now seeking additional potential victims who may have been exploited by Weatherbee. Anyone with information about possible crimes committed by Weatherbee, or the physical or online exploitation of any children, is encouraged to call the FBI at (503) 224-4181 or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov.
Weatherbee’s case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the U.S. government to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. For more information about Project Safe Childhood, please visit www.justice.gov/psc.
An indictment is only an accusation of a crime, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
