Shawn T. Sanapaw, a 34-year-old man from Keshena, Wisconsin, has been indicted for armed assault on the Menominee Indian Reservation, according to federal authorities.
The alleged incident occurred on September 29, 2017, when Sanapaw allegedly assaulted another person with a firearm, a crime that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to 3 years of supervised release.
The Menominee Tribal Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) investigated the case, and Assistant United States Attorney Andrew J. Maier is prosecuting the matter.
An indictment is only a charge and not evidence of guilt, and Sanapaw is presumed innocent until proven otherwise.
The case is being prosecuted in the Eastern District of Wisconsin, where United States Attorney Matthew D. Krueger oversees the office.
