A Shippensburg man has been indicted for threatening a former presidential candidate on TikTok, federal authorities announced.
According to the indictment, 37-year-old Steven Hartford, a resident of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, used his TikTok account, ‘thealex13one13,’ to make threatening comments towards the candidate.
The comments, made on July 21, 2024, included ‘I will assassinate her if she runs for pres,’ and ‘I will assassinate her,’ along with other violent threats.
The case was investigated by the United States Secret Service, and Assistant United States Attorney K. Wesley Mishoe is prosecuting the case.
The indictment is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating violent crime and protecting communities from perpetrators.
The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years imprisonment, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, a fine, and the imposition of a special assessment.
Indictments are only allegations, and all persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court.
