HONOLULU – In a shocking turn of events, Sidney Campbell, 45, of Honolulu, Hawaii, was charged yesterday by criminal complaint with illegally possessing firearms as a convicted felon. According to the criminal complaint, Campbell possessed a loaded firearm and ammunition on May 15, 2025, and transferred them to another person that same day.
The complaint also alleges that Campbell was previously convicted of burglary in the first degree in 2001 and has six prior felony convictions in the State of Hawaii, making him forbidden by federal law from possessing firearms. This egregious disregard for the law is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by repeat offenders.
On October 25, 2025, Campbell broke into a storage locker in Pearl City and stole firearms and ammunition. The brazen heist was caught on surveillance video, which was later used by investigators with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to identify Campbell. Upon arrest, Campbell admitted to the break-in and provided information that led the FBI to recover three pistols, six rifles, and various gun parts, including barrels, magazines, firing bolts, and two suppressors.
The sheer scale of the stolen firearms is a cause for concern, and the fact that Campbell was able to transfer them to another person raises questions about the potential for further violence. If convicted of the charged offense, Campbell faces up to fifteen years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The charge in the criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
This case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Honolulu Police Department, with the assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The collaboration between these agencies is a testament to the commitment to combating violent crime and protecting the community. The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that aims to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN). The initiative is a crucial step in the fight against violent crime, and the arrest of Sidney Campbell is a significant victory in this ongoing battle. As the case moves forward, the community will be watching closely to see justice served and to ensure that those who break the law are held accountable for their actions.
