WASHINGTON, D.C. – Faneisha Scott, 39, of Washington, D.C., will spend the next forty-one years of her life behind bars after being sentenced October 24, 2025, in D.C. Superior Court for the horrific murder of her 16-month-old daughter, Rhythm Fields. The sentence, handed down by Judge [insert judge’s name if available, otherwise omit], brings a grim close to a case that shocked the city and exposed a level of cruelty that defies comprehension.
A D.C. Superior Court jury found Scott guilty on June 11, 2025, of first-degree cruelty to children, first-degree felony murder with aggravating circumstances, and second-degree cruelty to children. The charges stem from the death of Rhythm Fields in March 2017, a case initially delayed in publication due to a government shutdown. The evidence presented painted a disturbing picture of prolonged abuse and neglect, culminating in the toddler’s brutal end.
The horrific events unfolded on March 21, 2017, when Scott’s friend, Rhythm’s godmother, visited her home in the 5400 block of C Street, SE. While the godmother’s eight-year-old child played with Rhythm, Scott discovered her daughter unresponsive in her playpen. Instead of immediately calling for help, Scott flagged down a mail carrier, who alerted authorities. The mail carrier, witnessing the scene, described Rhythm as “lifeless,” cold, and stiff, with fixed eyes. Even before paramedics arrived, a former firefighter present at the scene immediately recognized the child was beyond saving.
What was particularly chilling was Scott’s claim to first responders that she hadn’t been with Rhythm since 9:00 a.m. that morning – a blatant lie exposed by the extent of the injuries. The D.C. Medical Examiner’s Office autopsy, completed on March 22, 2017, and finalized February 5, 2018, revealed a catalogue of trauma. Rhythm Fields didn’t just die; she was systematically broken. The cause of death was ruled a homicide, caused by multiple blunt force injuries including contusions, abrasions, a subdural hemorrhage, cerebral edema, retinal hemorrhages, and a staggering 23 bilateral rib fractures – some old, some fresh.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith jointly announced the sentence, commending the dedication of the investigators and prosecutors. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Emma McArthur and Andrea Antonelli were instrumental in securing the conviction and ensuring Scott faced justice for her monstrous crimes. “This case is a tragedy, a stark reminder of the vulnerability of children and the responsibility we all have to protect them,” stated a source close to the investigation.
The forty-one-year sentence, while offering a measure of closure, does little to ease the pain of Rhythm Fields’ senseless death.
