Sidney Patterson, RICO, Louisiana 2023

A New Orleans gang member, Sidney Patterson, a/k/a ‘Duda Man,’ has been sentenced to life in prison for his involvement in the Ride or Die gang.

Patterson, 24, was found guilty of violating the Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organization Act (RICO), as well as drug conspiracy, firearms conspiracy, and murder charges.

According to evidence presented at trial, Patterson was a member of the Ride or Die gang, which operated in New Orleans from 2007 to 2013. The gang controlled the St. Roch neighborhood through violence and threats of violence, including murder, attempted murder, and assaults.

Patterson was found guilty of one murder and two attempted murders. He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan to serve the remainder of his life in prison.

This conviction is the result of an eight-day trial in August 2015, during which Patterson and two other defendants, Deloyd Jones and Byron Jones, were convicted of RICO and related charges.

The Ride or Die gang was part of a larger investigation into gang activity in the New Orleans area. The investigation, led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as part of the metro area’s Multi-Agency Gang Unit (MAG), resulted in the conviction of 12 defendants.

Patterson’s sentence brings the total number of convictions to 11, with one defendant still awaiting sentencing.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office praised the work of the MAG Unit and the other agencies involved in the investigation.
