Simon Parra-Avila, Re-entering the United States after Prior Deportations, Mississippi 2017

A Jackson, Mississippi man has been sentenced to federal prison for re-entering the United States after prior deportations, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Harold Brittain.

Simon Parra-Avila, 27, a citizen of Mexico, was sentenced on October 3, 2017, to serve three months in federal prison followed by deportation for illegally entering the United States after having been previously deported by the United States to Mexico in 2008, 2010, and 2011.

During each of his deportations to Mexico, Parra-Avila was warned that he must not return to the United States without proper legal authority. On April 12, 2017, in Morton, MS, federal agents found Parra-Avila, who had failed to obtain the permission of any U.S. authorities to enter the United States legally.

Parra-Avila was charged with re-entering the United States after being previously deported, a felony offense.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Carla J. Clark and investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, Office of Enforcement and Removal Operations.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Mississippi announced the sentence.

Parra-Avila’s sentence serves as a reminder that re-entering the United States after being previously deported is a serious offense with severe consequences.
