Sioux Falls Man Gets 20 Years for Child Porn Possession

A Sioux Falls, South Dakota, man has been handed a harsh sentence for his crimes against children. Marc Jones, 30, of Sioux Falls, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for possessing images of child pornography.

The images, which were discovered on Jones’ cell phone, depicted minor females exiting a shower, unaware of the photographs being taken. This is not Jones’ first run-in with the law, as he was previously convicted in 2014 of 4th Degree Rape in South Dakota.

United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced the sentencing, which took place on May 6, 2024, in Sioux Falls. The case was investigated by the Sioux Falls Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper prosecuting the case.

As part of his sentence, Jones must register as a sex offender upon his release from federal prison. He was also ordered to pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.

According to court records, Jones was indicted by a federal grand jury in May of 2023 and pleaded guilty on February 23, 2024. The images were taken on March 23, 2023, and Jones was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.

The conviction serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences for those who prey on the vulnerable. As the investigation and prosecution of child pornography cases continue to evolve, one thing remains clear: those who commit these heinous crimes will be held accountable.
