SIOUX FALLS, SD – Reymundo Sauceda, 43, of Sioux Falls, will spend the next three decades in a federal prison cell after being sentenced for his role in a massive drug trafficking operation. U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier handed down the 30-year sentence on June 11, 2019, followed by 10 years of supervised release. The sentence reflects the gravity of Sauceda’s crimes and the damage he inflicted on the community.
According to court documents, Sauceda conspired with others to distribute staggering amounts of narcotics. The conspiracy spanned from approximately October 1, 2013, to July 26, 2016. Federal prosecutors proved Sauceda knowingly and intentionally combined with co-conspirators to distribute 500 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine, *and* 500 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing cocaine. That’s a serious quantity, folks – enough to ruin countless lives.
This wasn’t a small-time operation. Sauceda wasn’t just a street-level dealer. He was a key player in a network flooding the streets with poison. He was ordered to pay $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, a paltry sum considering the devastation caused by his actions. The U.S. Attorney Ron Parsons’ office made clear this case was a priority.
Sauceda isn’t the only one facing consequences. His co-conspirator, Martin Rios, was already sentenced on April 22, 2019, by Judge Schreier to 20 years in federal prison, also followed by 5 years of supervised release, and a $100 payment to the Crime Victims Fund. The investigation, led by the U.S. Postal Service and the Drug Enforcement Administration, clearly revealed a coordinated effort to pump drugs into the region.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Connie Larson skillfully prosecuted the case, presenting a mountain of evidence that sealed Sauceda’s fate. The DEA and Postal Inspectors meticulously tracked the flow of drugs and money, building an airtight case against Sauceda and his crew. This wasn’t some lucky break; it was relentless, professional police work.
Following the sentencing, Sauceda was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, beginning his long journey into the federal prison system. This case serves as a harsh reminder that those who profit from the misery of others will be held accountable. The Grimy Times will continue to follow federal cases like this, exposing the dark underbelly of crime and bringing justice to light.
