A 62-year-old Slidell man has been convicted of making false statements in a passport application, a crime that could land him in prison for up to 10 years.
Daryl Saunders, also known as Darryl Sanders, pleaded guilty to making false statements in an application for a 2018 U.S. Passport on March 27, 2018. Saunders falsely claimed his name was Daryl Saunders with a date of birth of 09/03/XXXX.
U.S. Attorney Peter G. Strasser announced the guilty plea, which was entered in a New Orleans federal court. Saunders faces a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment, followed by up to three years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000.00, and a mandatory $100 special assessment as to each count.
Sentencing in this matter is scheduled for September 10, 2019, before U.S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey. The prosecution of this case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba, Supervisor of the Financial Crimes Unit.
U.S. Attorney Strasser praised the work of the U.S. Department of State, Diplomatic Security Service, and the Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General, in bringing the case to light.
