COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – In a shocking turn of events, Solomon Elias Wheeler, 34, of Lapwai, Idaho, was sentenced to 13 months in prison for his brazen escape and probation violations. Wheeler’s sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge, who made it clear that Wheeler’s actions would not be taken lightly.
Wheeler’s troubles began in July 2012, when he was sentenced to eight months in prison and five years supervised release for violating federal sex offender registration laws and giving a false statement to an FBI agent. However, Wheeler’s time in prison was short-lived, as he was alleged to have violated his supervised release in June 2014.
Wheeler’s actions in June 2014 would prove to be his downfall. He petitioned for a medical furlough, claiming that he needed a medical procedure. The court granted the furlough, but Wheeler did not return to jail as ordered. Instead, he remained out of custody until his arrest in September 2014.
The case against Wheeler was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service, with the assistance of the Nez Perce Tribal Police Department. Wheeler’s sentence marks the latest chapter in a long and troubled history of crime and deception.
As part of his sentence, Wheeler will serve seven months in prison for escape, consecutive to six months in prison for two supervised release violations. This brings his total sentence to 13 months in prison.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of violating the terms of one’s probation. Wheeler’s actions have left him with a lengthy prison sentence, and a reputation that will be difficult to shake.
