Soufiane Bougria, 31, of Springfield, Virginia, is facing a long stretch after a jury convicted him of a brutal assault on his girlfriend at Mathews Arm Campground in Shenandoah National Park on August 24, 2025. Witnesses described a terrifying scene of screaming and violence that culminated in a desperate scramble for help.
Park visitors reported hearing shouts and what sounded like a gunshot late that night. They saw Bougria grab his girlfriend, and quickly flagged down authorities. Cops pulled over Bougria’s car just minutes later. The scene inside was straight out of a nightmare.
Bougria was found behind the wheel, shirtless and reeking of booze. His girlfriend was in the passenger seat, clutching at a horrifying wound on her arm and wrist, desperately trying to stop the bleeding with whatever cloth she could find. Blood and footprints splattered the shattered windshield, painting a grim picture of the attack.
Bougria initially tried to spin the injury as accidental, but the evidence – and the victim’s testimony – told a different story. He now awaits sentencing on federal charges, facing serious time for this act of savagery in the Virginia wilderness.
