A South Paris man has pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a firearm after being caught with a 12-gauge shotgun in 2015, despite prior felony convictions.
Andrew Bean, 51, was discovered by a Maine Game Warden on November 21, 2015, in the Paris, Maine area. The warden found Bean in possession of the shotgun, which led to a federal investigation.
Bean’s prior felony convictions for Operating Under the Influence in 2002 and 2006, as well as Operating after Revocation in 2006, made him ineligible to possess firearms.
The case was investigated by the Maine Warden Service and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Bean faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
Bean’s guilty plea is a significant blow to gun enthusiasts and law enforcement officials who have been working tirelessly to crack down on gun crime.
Assistant United States Attorney Michael J. Conley is leading the case, and a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office said they are pleased with the outcome.
Bean will be sentenced at a later date, and his fate is now in the hands of the court.
