Spice Kingpins Charles Ritchie and Benjamin Galecki Face 20-Year Sentences

Two masterminds behind a nationwide spice ring have been handed 20-year sentences for their heinous crimes. Charles Burton Ritchie, 49, and Benjamin Galecki, 46, were found guilty of operating a continuing criminal enterprise, manufacturing and distributing controlled substance analogues, wire fraud, mail fraud, money laundering, maintaining a drug premises, and possession of a listed chemical with the intent to manufacture a controlled substance.

The operation, which spanned from Park City, Utah, to Pensacola, Florida, was dismantled by federal agents who discovered that Ritchie and Galecki had been selling millions worth of dangerous drugs. Their products, labeled as ‘potpourri’ or ‘incense,’ contained illegal chemicals like XLR-11, a substance banned in the US.

Acting Assistant Attorney General Brian C. Rabbitt emphasized the Justice Department’s commitment to tackling such threats. ‘These sentences demonstrate the department’s dedication to pursuing criminals who sell dangerous drugs that imperil our communities nationwide,’ Rabbitt stated.

The defendants were sentenced following a ten-day federal jury trial in Las Vegas, Nevada. U.S. Attorney Nicholas A. Trutanich praised collaboration with law enforcement partners and Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces for dismantling the operation, curbing the flow of spice into communities across the country.

Assistant Special Agent in Charge Dan Neill highlighted the lifesaving impact of disrupting such organizations, saying, ‘Disrupting this organization sends a clear message that we will not tolerate those who prey on our communities.’

Special Agent in Charge Tara Sullivan, IRS Criminal Investigation, echoed these sentiments: ‘Ritchie and Galecki’s actions put illegal drugs on the streets for profit, but they won’t profit from their crime any longer.
